Shere
The village of Shere is in the Tillingborne valley in the south of Surrey, 5 miles east of Guildford. The village's picturesque setting and pastel-coloured cottages and shops make it popular with walkers and film-makers.
The village is centered around Middle Street and includes St James' church (more on the local history page). There are two pubs in the village centre - the Prince of Wales and the White Horse Inn. Also in the village centre are Shere Museum, a village hall and village club, and a convenience shop and sub post office. The village is home to Shere Cricket Club.
North-west of Shere is Newlands Corner from which there are views over the Surrey Hills, and which is around half an hour's walk to St Martha's Hill (see aerial photographs at the foot of this page).
Neighbouring Gomshall has a train station on the Reading/Guildford to Redhill line. The A25 road runs east towards Dorking and west to Guildford (around 5 miles) for access to the A3 trunk road.
