Claygate is located in north Surrey, close to Esher.

The main centre of the village is around The Parade which runs east from the railway station and includes a Somerfield supermarket. There are also some restaurants and shops on the small High Street, around 500m further east.

Transport connections are via the A3 London-Portsmouth road which passes to the east of the village, and the Guildford-London Waterloo railway line on the west.
