Sunbury is located on the north side of the River Thames in north Surrey.

The town centre, on Staines Road West, includes Sunbury Cross shopping precinct with an M&S food store. There is also a Tesco supermarket in the town centre.

A short distance to the east of the town centre is Kempton Park racecourse (see local history and aerial photographs).

The M3 motorway starts at Sunbury and runs to Southampton. Sunbury railway station, in the town centre, is on the Shepperton to London Waterloo line.
