Reigate
The town of Reigate is located in the east of Surrey just south of the North Downs hills.
The town is centred around the High Street (part of the A25) and Bell Street, which runs south from the High Street. The centre includes a Morrison's supermarket, a Marks and Spencer food store, a good range of smaller shops (particularly for home furnishings) and a Screen cinema. Reigate's landmark building is the old town hall (shown in the photograph opposite).
To the south of the town centre is Priory Park which includes woodlands, a pond, tennis courts and the Priory house itself (now used as a school). The remains of Reigate Castle are a short walk north of the High Street.
One and a half miles east of Reigate town centre along the A25 is the centre of Redhill. Whilst Reigate and Redhill are classed as separate towns, in practice they form one conurbation (see local history page).
Reigate train station is on the Reading/Guildford to Redhill line; there are some direct peak-time services to London, otherwise it's possible to change at Redhill for London. Junction 8 of the M25 can be accessed at the top of Reigate Hill (A217) around 2 miles drive north of the town centre.
