Farnham
Farnham is located in south-west Surrey close to the border with Hampshire.
The town is particularly known for its Georgian arrchitecture and the castle to the north of the town centre. The original castle keep is managed by English Heritage and is open to the public whilst the residential part of the castle is a training and conference centre (see Farnham local history page).
Farnham's shops are in the town centre area around The Borough, with the Lion and Lamb Yard shopping precinct nearby. There are Sainsbury's and Waitrose supermarkets in the town centre.
The ruins of Waverley Abbey, the first Cistercian abbey in England, are to the south-east of Farnham and are run by English Heritage.
Bird World is approximately 3 miles / 5km south-east of Farnham and includes birds of prey, penguins, a farm and aquaria. Hog's Back Brewery in Tongham (between Farnham and Guildford) was opened in 1992 in 16th century farm buildings and can be visited for tours.
The University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham is a short walk north of West Street.
Farnham is located between the M3 London to Southampton motorway and the A3 London to Portsmouth road. Farnham train station to the south of the town centre is on the Alton to London Waterloo route.
