Chertsey
Chertsey is located in north Surrey on the River Thames and was the site of an abbey founded in the seventh century (see history). In more recent times, the town has become the site of a crossing over the Thames.
The town is centered around Guildford Street and includes a Sainsbury's supermarket and a library. Also in the town centre are Chertsey Museum and Chertsey Hall, which is used by local societies.
Near Chertsey is St Anne's Hill, offering excellent views over the surrounding area. Thorpe Park, a theme park, is located north of the town on the site of a former gravel pit (see aerial photographs).
Junction 11 of the M25 motorway is a short drive from the town, and the M3 motorway can be accessed via the M25. The town is on a branch train line to London Waterloo, though shorter journey times can often be achieved by travelling south and changing at Weybridge.
